Having received specialist instrumental tuition at the Centre for Young Musicians, Penelope attended the course for young musicians at Kingsway College, and spent a year studying music at Dartington College of Arts. She played with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, and the London Youth Chamber Orchestra.
Penelope studied double bass with Kevin Rundell, and cello with Gwyneth George (pupil of Tortelier) at Trinity College of Music, where she was the winner of the Eugene Cruft prize, and was awarded the LTCL Performing and Teaching Diplomas. Subsequently she studied cello with Kate Beare (pupil of Navara).
She has performed as an orchestral, chamber, solo and continuo instrumentalist at venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, St. John's Smith Square, St. James Piccadilly, and the Barbican. Penelope also has extensive experience in conducting, coaching and instrumental tuition.
New Music: Penelope performed the world premier of "The Temptation" for solo cello and French horn by David Goymour.
